About Mama’s on Vacation

Welcome to Mama’s on Vacation, a travel blog that helps moms plan stress-free vacations.

About Me and My Family

I’m Heidi, a mom from Ontario who loves vacation planning.

After working for 15 years as an Early Childhood Educator, I discovered that my true passion was writing.  So, I quit my job and began focusing on building a career as a freelance writer, and then as a blogger.

My husband (who I refer to as The Husband on my blogs) and I have been married for 13 years and have 2 children.  Our younger daughter, Lil Sis, is 10 years old and our older daughter Big Sis, is 12.  Big Sis is autistic so we also have an autism service dog for her, The Dog, who now joins us on most of our vacations.

About Mama’s on Vacation

Vacation planning has always been like a hobby for me.  I enjoy doing all the research and coming up with a detailed plan for our trips.  But I know some moms don’t find the planning part that appealing, or just simply don’t have the time for it.

That’s why my goal here on Mama’s on Vacation is to take out all the work of finding information for vacations for you, so you can find everything you need to know in one place.

I will be posting detailed vacation guides with all of the information you need to visit a destination from the best hotels and attractions to tips and reviews of our experience.

In addition to these longer travel guide posts, I will also be posting smaller articles to review hotels and attractions, give you ideas for destinations and attractions to visit, tips for travelling with kids and making vacations more affordable, how to take the stress out of a vacation, and more.

My posts will include everything from family vacations to day trips in Southwestern Ontario and nearby areas.

Of course, my travel isn’t just limited to family trips.  The husband and I try to go away, just the two of us, once or twice a year (since my kids have an amazing grandma who’s willing to babysit), so there will be some posts to help you with planning that much needed couples’ trip too.

I am also lucky enough to be married to a man that can survive a few days alone with his kids to let this mom go on a girl’s trip.  Admittedly these trips have only been happening for the last couple of years, as it was a lot harder to get away (and find other moms who were able to ditch the kids for a few days) when the kids were younger.

Of course, since I am starting this blog in the middle of a global pandemic, I will also be posting about virtual travel (and how to make it more fun), for any other mamas who need help keeping their kids entertained at home right now.

While I have a lot of ideas to fill up this website, there’s no way I will ever be able to travel to all of the places that other moms want to know about, so I would be happy to feature some other bloggers or moms on here too.

So, if you’re a mom blogger who wants to dip her toe in the travel niche, or just a mom who has a great vacation review or travel tips to share, send me an email at heidi@mamasonvacation.com.
