New Year’s Eve Niagara Falls Concert: Is There One This Year?

New Year’s Eve Niagara Falls Concert

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but if you were hoping to attend a Niagara Falls New Year’s Eve 2025 concert, it’s not happening (again).

There is some hope, though. According to The Niagara Falls Review, Mayor Jim Diodati has said he hopes the famous free concerts could return for the 2026 Niagara Falls New Year’s Eve event.

These concerts, which started in the early 1990s, were held in Queen Victoria Park on a massive stage facing the Falls and were completely free to attend.  Unfortunately, the 2020 event was cancelled due to COVID, and due to the high cost of hosting a free event, the city hasn’t brought it back since.

The last concert took place in 2019, and that was my first time attending New Year’s Eve in Niagara Falls. Bryan Adams headlined, with opening acts from Walk Off the Earth and local artist Valerie Borghesi.  It was incredible. I’ve been back since, but the vibe just isn’t the same without a main stage show.

Niagara Falls New Year’s Eve Free Events

Winter Festival of Lights

Winter Festival of Lights

If you are looking for free New Year’s Eve events in Niagara Falls, you’ll want to check out the Winter Festival of Lights. This Christmas display continues in Queen Victoria Park until January 4th. This huge walk-through light display features interactive exhibits like lit-up teeter-totters and swings. It’s the perfect place to hang out with the kids while you wait for that early fireworks show.

The Falls

As usual, the Falls will be lit with colorful LED lights starting at 4:30 PM. For New Year’s Eve, they stay lit until 2 AM, creating a beautiful backdrop for the night.

Fireworks (x2)

While fireworks at the Falls occur regularly (nightly during peak tourist season, and Friday and Saturday nights for the Winter Festival of Lights), for New Year’s Eve, there are two shows.

The first one, an early bonus show at 8:00 PM, allows younger kids who won’t make it until midnight to celebrate before heading off to bed. Then, the nine-minute main show will occur after the countdown to midnight.

Niagara Falls Activities & Attractions

Niagara Falls Attractions

Looking for things to do New Year’s Eve in Niagara Falls?

Niagara Falls has two main areas for attractions: Clifton Hill (the original area that’s full of fun) and the newer attractions up on Fallsview Boulevard. You will also find a few great attractions along the Niagara River Parkway near the Falls.

I’d highly recommend getting one of the multi-attraction passes for New Year’s Eve. We’ve often used the Clifton Hill 6 Attraction Fun Pass, and it’s well worth the money—especially on New Year’s Eve, when you’ll be looking for places to stop into to warm up.

The last year the kids and I went to Niagara Falls for NYE, we got the Clifton Hill Fun Zone Pass. It’s an unlimited pass, and we took advantage of that. We played Laser Tag at least six times!  It was the perfect way to spend New Year’s Eve with teens, while we waited for the fireworks show to start.

Parking and Getting Around Niagara Falls on New Year’s Eve

Getting Around Niagara Falls on New Year's Eve

To make things safer for the large pedestrian crowd that the New Year’s Eve in Niagara Falls celebration draws, the city closes several roads to vehicles.

  • The Niagara Parkway: The section between Clifton Hill and Fraser Hill closes at 7:00 PM. A full road closure begins at 8:00 PM, and it usually reopens around 1:00 AM.
  • Clifton Hill: This main street will also be closed to vehicle traffic.
  • Murray Street: The stretch from the Niagara Parkway to Warren Avenue (Skylon Driveway) closes at 7:00 PM. The rest of the street, up to Fallsview Boulevard, closes fully at 10:00 PM.

Fortunately, the Falls Incline Railway and the WEGO Bus system operate until 1:00 AM on New Year’s Eve. This makes it much easier to get back to your hotel if you stay a bit further away from the Falls.

If you drive down for the evening but aren’t staying the night, your best bet is to park at Rapidsview Parking. It only costs $10! You can then take the shuttle from Table Rock Centre back to your car once the festivities end.

Why You Should Book a Room!

Why You Should Book a Room!

Personally, I find it much easier to rent a room for the night rather than trying to drive out.  Yes, the Niagara Falls hotels are expensive on New Year’s Eve, but it’s worth the cost for the convenience. Even if you stay nearby, the massive crowds mean it can take an hour just to walk to your hotel. If you try to drive home after the midnight fireworks, you could be stuck in a gridlock for a couple of hours.

Plus, if you have young kids who won’t be able to stay up for the midnight fireworks show, getting a room with a view is a lifesaver. It allows you to put them to sleep at their normal time while you can still watch the show from your window.

The first year we attended, we stayed at a hotel off of Fallsview Boulevard. Our group ended up getting separated while we tried to navigate our way back through the sea of people. It took us a full hour just to reach our room!

The second time we went, just me and the kids, I lucked out. I found a great deal on a hotel at the top of Clifton Hill called The Falls Hotel & Inn. Because of the location, it didn’t take us nearly as long to make our way back to our room after the fireworks. This spot has quickly become our favorite Niagara Falls budget hotel, and I have stayed there three times now. Follow me on Facebook so you don’t miss my upcoming review, where I share exactly why I love it.

These hotels put you right in the middle of the “Street of Fun,” making it easy to stop into attractions to warm up on your way down to the Falls.

  • The Falls Hotel & Inn ($$): (read my review to see why we love it) This is right at the top of Clifton Hill. I love that the tower rooms offer views of the fireworks. There’s an indoor pool with a hot tub and sauna, plus breakfast is available for a fee.
  • Travelodge by Wyndham Fallsview ($$): You will find this one on the Niagara River Parkway. It is a quick six-minute walk from Clifton Hill and offers rooms with views of the river.

Fallsview Area Hotels

This area is a bit more elevated and offers some of the best panoramic views of the entire Falls.

New Year’s Day Activities

New Years Day Activities

Niagara Falls offers plenty of other activities that you might not have time for on New Year’s Eve. If you plan to stay a couple of nights, these are well worth checking out on New Year’s Day or later in the week.

  • Fallsview Indoor Waterpark: This is a massive indoor park with slides and a wave pool—perfect for burning off kid energy.
  • Butterfly Conservatory: Step into a tropical paradise with hundreds of free-flying butterflies.
  • Bird Kingdom: This is the world’s largest free-flying indoor aviary.

Mom Pro Tips for Niagara Falls NYE

Mom Pro Tips for Niagara Falls NYE
  • The “8:00 PM Pivot”: The midnight fireworks are amazing, but the 8:00 PM show is the real winner for moms with little ones. The kids get to see the fireworks, and instead of ringing in the New Year with overtired kids, you can be sipping wine in your hotel room while they’re fast asleep.
  • Park and Take the Shuttle: If you aren’t staying overnight, don’t even try to park on Clifton Hill. Use the Rapidsview Lot. It’s cheaper, there’s a shuttle that takes you straight to Table Rock, and you won’t be stuck in your car for hours trying to leave afterward.
  • Dress in Layers: It’s going to be cold by the Falls. Layer up—waterproof jackets, gloves, and hats are a must. Don’t forget warm socks and insulated boots.
  • Beware of the “Mist”: The mist from the Falls is freezing this time of year. If you’re bringing a stroller, make sure to use the rain cover to keep your little one dry and warm.
  • Finding Warmth: There are plenty of places to wander into to stay warm. Near the Falls, head to Table Rock Centre. On Clifton Hill, check out an attraction or a gift shop.
  • Set a “Meeting Spot”: It’s going to be crowded. Pick a clear landmark—like the Niagara SkyWheel entrance—as your “if we get separated” meeting spot. Write your phone number on a piece of paper and tuck it into younger children’s pockets, or put an Airtag on them, just in case.
  • Plan for a Quick Exit: If the kids melt down after the fireworks, know the fastest route back to your hotel or car. Having a plan will save time and stress.
  • Know Where the Bathrooms Are: There are several public washrooms available:
    • Table Rock Centre: Inside this main hub, right at the brink of the Horseshoe Falls, washrooms are on the main levels near the “Journey Behind the Falls” entrance.
    • Queen Victoria Place: Located on the Niagara River Parkway, between Queen Victoria Park and the brink of the Horseshoe Falls.
    • Grand View Marketplace: Head right at the bottom of Clifton Hill down the Niagara River Parkway, and you’ll find these exterior washrooms in the area the Zipline departs from.
    • Clifton Hill Wendy’s: Inside, at the very back.
    • Clifton Hill Tim Hortons: Inside the building the Tim Hortons is in, there are stairs leading down to the washrooms from the back entrance.
    • Clifton Pl: On this little side street off the middle of Clifton Hill, there’s a public washroom just behind the Carnival Chaos attraction.

Mom Bag Essentials:

  • Hand Warmers: Slip them into the kids’ mittens before they start complaining about the cold.
  • Portable Charger: If you’re taking photos, bring a backup charger. Cold drains batteries quickly.
  • Thermos of Cocoa: Buying multiple hot chocolates at a stand can get expensive. Bring your own.
  • Bring Snacks: Lines at food stands can be long and expensive. Pack a few snacks for the kids so they’re happy while waiting for fireworks.
  • Glow Sticks: This keeps the kids visible in the dark and makes it easier to keep track of them in the crowds.
  • Soundproof Headphones: If you have young children or older children who are sensitive to loud noises, you’ll want to bring a pair of headphones so the fireworks don’t become overwhelming for them.

Final Thought on Spending New Year’s Eve in Niagara Falls

Final Thought on Spending New Years Eve in Niagara Falls

Ringing in the New Year at the Falls is a true bucket-list experience. While the missing concerts have changed the vibe slightly, the dazzling lights, incredible food, and the double fireworks show still make it a night to remember. With a little planning and the right home base, you can skip the stress and just enjoy the magic!

My kids loved our last New Year’s Eve trip to Niagara Falls. While it was more crowded than we’re used to for a Niagara Falls winter trip, it was still a great way to ring in the New Year.
